Remember when I quit my job a while back? I do. I was nervous that I was starting from scratch. That all of my experience in commercial advertising photo and video would be wiped from the record as I started over with a different vision and a different subject matter. The vision? A brand built on outdoor adventure and manifested in photography and storytelling that celebrates the sublime places that can be reached under concerted human effort; with a goal of organically building an audience of people and brands who share this passion. To this end, I haven't been banging on ad agency doors in New York looking for the next big commercial commission. I've been splitting time between the wild places that draw me with almost tangible gravity, and my humble office which gives me the tools to distribute the fruits of my labors. I was mentally prepared to maintain this cycle with no tangible returns for a year or more, knowing that starting out is always a tenuous and glacial process.
Imagine my surprise when REI contacted me with a need. Real stories from real people making outdoor adventure a way of life who have the tools to tell the story authentically and beautifully. It seems some of the folks down at headquarters had been keeping track of my ongoing narrative via my various online platforms, and they wanted to share my stories and images with their audience as a means to evoke and inspire.
In this new economy of altruistic online distribution, nothing is more of an honor or a vote of confidence than a major player in the space choosing to add your work to their platform of sharing; and the REI audience has responded in-kind with great enthusiasm and support. It is successes like this which lead me to continue with renewed energy and confidence in my mission to capture and share the places and moments that have helped to define my life and fuel my greatest energies.
A heartfelt thanks to REI, their passionate audience and to you for your support.
