Granite Vol. 1
Granite Vol. 1 is a collection made through the eyes and practices of a climber — ranging from the high peaks of Washington to the desert boulder fields of California, and always in pursuit of the world's most enduring stone. Granite outlasts everything: when glaciers retreated from the last ice age, it was the granite walls that remained standing while surrounding peaks crumbled to sand. Scott Rinckenberger came to these landscapes as a climber first, and these images carry that sensory intimacy — the bite of cold crystals on a shaded face, the sculptural logic of a perfectly placed hold, the micro and macro forms that only reveal themselves to those who get close enough to touch. This is a love letter to granite, and to the practice of seeking it out. Read Scott's full artist statement →
