PHOTOSYNTHESIS
We found a few acres of forest in a river canyon. We call it home. It rains. A lot. In April and May the entire place explodes in lush greens of every imaginable shade and shape. Finally with the time or temperament to give this phenomenon it’s due, I brought some leaves into my studio, set them on my light table, rigged up a camera setup designed for detail, and I photographed over the course of a few weeks as the seasonal crescendo moved from species to species. As I created each photograph, I developed a desire to identify and learn something about each specific plant, and so, again, the doors to the mind were kicked open - starting with a walk outside, followed with a close photographic study, and finally, the seeking of immersive understanding, which is unending.
